2008-11-11 Monk Fryston Bonfire Goes with a Bang |
Almost 90 local businesses dug deep to provide the fireworks, while half a dozen Monk Fryston and Hillam landowners also pitched in to provide the land for the event and free off-road car parking for the thousands of people attending. The highlight of the display was the firing of probably the biggest shell ever seen in Yorkshire, reaching a height of a thousand feet and with a colourful spray of more than 650 feet. |

2008-11-09 Police Introduce Valuables Registration Website |
The Police have introduced a new website to help fight crime around Monk Fryston. The new website - www.imobilise.com is free for the use of anyone to register property and keep it updated with changes as necessary. The details on the website can only be accessed by the police and the person who registered and will help in getting back lost or stolen property.

2008-10-24 Bus Service Setback for Monk Fryston |
A meeting of Monk Fryston Parish Council members, MP John Grogan and representatives of Selby District Council, North Yorkshire County Council, South Milford Parish Council, Highway Engineers from NYCC, The Highway Agency and Carillion WSP failed to reach an agreement on repairing the bus stop and lay-by adjacent to Monk Fryston village post office. The bus service was suspended in March on safety grounds. As a result of failing to find a solution, Arriva, the bus company, is unlikely to reinstate this bus stop service. |

2008-10-17 Monk Fryston Sisters' Ju Jitsu Success |
Sisters Inka and Stella Doyle from Monk Fryston have returned from the European Brazilian JuJitsu Championships in Paris with gold and silver medals respectively. The girls are members of MFF Fighters in Sherburn and are looking for sponsors in 2009. |

2008-09-28 Rainbow Pack Returns |
Monk Fryston Community Association have announced the re-introduction of a Rainbow Pack into the village. Mandy Shaw and Becky Gatenby have agreed to become Guiders and start a pack in January.
If you would like your daughter to join the Rainbows in January then please make sure you get along to an open evening at the Community Centre on 14th November at 8pm to register and to find out more.

2008-09-19 Dog trials at Monk Fryston |
Aberford Kennel Club are holding dog trials at Monk Fryston on Saturday and Sunday 20th and 21st September. Some of the country’s top dogs will be put through obedience and agility tests on land adjacent to Monk Fryston Common Lane . Admission is free. |

2008-09-16 Monk Fryston Creates Village Plan |
The Monk Fryston Fund for All Community Planning Group exhibited the results of their consultations with village stakeholder groups, along with the suggestions and observations made by village residents at the Summer Fayre, at the Community Centre on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September. The Group has analysed and collated the collective responses into a Hillam and Monk Fryston Draft Village Plan. Residents were invited to view the draft, raise further points and help prioritise actions before the plan is finalised. |

2008-09-09 Campaign Group Protests Against Road Charging |
The Selby branch of the No2ID campaign is meeting at the Blue Bell public house in Monk Fryston on 16th September to challenge the road pricing system planned to be trialled in Leeds. They see road charges as an example of a Big Brother state in action. |

There will be a scarecrow making session in Monk Fryston Community Centre on Saturday 6th September for everyone needing assistance making their entry for the forthcoming Scarecrow Festival. Straw and stuffing will be available for anyone needing help with their creation. |

2008-06-22 Village Hosts Egg Throwing Championship |
The main attraction of the Monk Fryston Community Association and school PTA village day on the 28th June is the Yorkshire Egg Throwing and Catching Championship. If you want to have a go, there is no age limit and teams of two can register by contacting the association. |
