2010-07-31  Resident Anger at School Students Littering

Residents of Kippax are complaining about the way in which students leaving Brigshaw School at the end of term were tearing up books and scattering the litter in the street. When challenged over the mess, the pupils just walked on.  

 

2010-07-31  Yorkshire Day Celebrations

Local Yorkshire Day Celebrations on Sunday 1st August will include family games, tombola and a snowboard simulator at Fairburn Ings. West Yorkshire Brass Band will be playing at Lotherton Hall and Kippax Band will be playing at Wetherby Riverside  

 

2010-07-30  The Cost of Councillors

A study of Leeds City Councillor payments has revealed that Kippax councillor Keith Wakefield is paid fifty three thousand pounds a year and Garforth councillor Tom Murray receives over thirty seven thousand pounds a year. Figures for the other councillors in Kippax and Garforth wards were not given in the study. Payments made to councillors and details of allowances are published on the council’s website.  

 

2010-07-26  Teacher Raises Funds for Namibia Projects

Brigshaw music teacher Angela Wright raised over £800 when she cycled over 280 miles, from London to Paris, in four days. The money raised will help educational projects in Namibia.

2010-07-22  It’s a Rubbish Collection Service

Residents of Emley View, Kippax are complaining to the council that their brown bins, containing garden rubbish have not been collected for 5 weeks despite repeated calls and promises that they would be.  

 

2010-07-21  Agency Finally Act to Stop Brecks Smells

The Environment Agency is to take long overdue firm action at Brecks Farm, ordering the introduction of a covering for the slurry pond to significantly reduce the odour blighting the lives of local residents. Kippax councillors had complained about Environment Agency officers failing to resolve the problem despite visiting the farm over fifty times.  

 

2010-07-18  Callum Signs for Liverpool

Fourteen year old centre forward Callum Pilkington from Kippax has signed for Liverpool FC and has also been selected to go on an England training camp. The Brigshaw youngster, who was a junior with Bradford City when spotted by Liverpool, is an ardent Leeds United fan.  

 

2010-07-17  Kippax Poet in Concert

The poems of Jean Gittens from Kippax have been set to music and will be performed by Leeds choir Free Range at a fundraising concert at the Shine Centre on Harehills Road in aid of refugees and asylum seekers. Jean’s poems describe the struggles of local mining communities during the miner’s strike.  

 

2010-07-11  Tennis Balls Wanted at the Ings

Staff at Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve are asking the public for old tennis balls that can be cut up to serve as nests for harvest mice. Field mice numbers have fallen in recent years and nests in converted tennis balls are a proven success.
