2012-01-11   Hillam Parish Grants Available

Hillam Parish Council has set aside funds to financially support organisations that enhance village life. Applications to Parish Clerk Malcolm Walton for specific expenses, costs or imminent projects are invited from local organisations, no later than 15th January  

 

2011-09-14   No Police Station in Hillam

North Yorkshire Police’s mobile station will no longer stop in Hillam, but it will continue to be available in Monk Fryston, at the lay-by near the school between 7.00 and 8.00 pm. Next dates are September 26th and October 24th.  

 

2011-09-14   Hillam Inclosure Talk

Hillam Historians are celebrating the 200th birthday of the Hillam Inclosure Award with an illustrated talk bylocal historian Simon Tomson called 'Village Life Before and After Inclosure' on Wednesday 14th September, 7.00 for 7.30 pm at the new Cricket Pavilion, Stocking Lane. Admission is free and there will be a celebratory glass of wine or two.  

 

2011-07-23   Hillam Cricket Pavilion Opening

The grand opening of the new cricket pavilion in Stocking Lane, Hillam will take place on 24th July. Local MP Nigel Adams with perform the opening ceremony at noon  

 

2011-07-02   Jet Wash Rogues

On the morning of 10th June, two men offered to jet wash an elderly resident’s paving in Hillam and then attempted to charge £1800 before making off in a silver Ford transit van. Police ask residents to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060247.  

 

2011-06-26   Arson Attack on Hillam Pub

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack on the Cross Keys public house in Hillam at around 11.30pm on Sunday 15th May. Anyone with information should contact Selby CID office  

 

2011-04-20   Open Garden Against Wind Farms

Anti-wind farm campaigner Howard Ferguson of Maspin House near Hillam is opening his two acre garden to the public on Easter Sunday. Visitors can inspect the gardens and find out about local wind farm proposals. Admission is free but donations to wind farm fighting funds will be accepted.  

 

2010-11-09   2010 Scarecrow Festival Winners

The 2010 Scarecrow Festival winners were: Favourite Scarecrow in Monk Fryston - Wallace and Gromit by Helen Murkin, Favourite Scarecrow in Hillam - Joint winners: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by Angela Fisher and Shaun the Sheep by Philip Hill. Gift vouchers and bottles of wine are on their way to the winners.  

 

2010-09-01   Fly Tipping On Increase

Fly tipping is on the increase around Hillam with several incidents where large amounts of rubbish, including asbestos, have been dumped on grass verges and country lanes around the village. A council vehicle now makes routine visits to the area to shift rubbish and dispose of it properly. After asbestos was dumped on Lowfield Road the council sent a team of three men to remove the rubbish.  

 

2010-08-31   Scarecrow Workshop

There will be scarecrow making sessions in the Hillam and Monk Fryston Community Centre on Saturday 4 September at 10am for those interested in entering the Scarecrow Festival. Straw, stuffing and frames will be available for anyone who would like some help with their creation. You can also pay your entry fee to the competition at the workshops.
