2010-06-14 New Church Warden at St Wilfreds |
Maxene Wells from the Dower House, Hillam, has been appointed one of the two churchwardens at St Wilfrid’s, taking over from Dorothy Varden, who has completed her full six-year appointment. Maxene was sworn in at York Minster in May.

2010-06-04 Light Bill Even Lighter This Year |
The Clerk of Hillam Parish Council has reported that a 126 pound invoice from NPower for street lighting from 1st April 2009 to 31st March 2010 was significantly less than last year’s 750 pound bill. In view of this, the power company is to be contacted to check if the billing is correct. Meanwhile, the account for £126.62 is to be paid until the matter is resolved.

Hillam Parish Council has agreed in principal to the proposal that a skateboard park, funded by a third party, be developed on land owned by the community association. |

There will be a hearing at Selby Civic Centre into the gipsy settlement near Hillam on Wednesday 9th June. The meeting is open to the public and the inspector will publish a decision within a month.

2009-11-28 Hillam News celebrates its 20th birthday |
Villagers celebrated 20 years of production of the Hillam News with a special evening at the Cross Keys Inn at Hillam. The bi-monthly paper is delivered free to every house in the village, with a hundred available for collection at Monk Fryston Post Office.

As part of the Scarecrow Festival on 13th and 14th September the Monk Fryston and Hillam villages are holding a photo competition. The themes are ‘In my Garden’ Or ‘In my Village’. Submit your entry with £1 fee to the Village Store by Thursday 11th September. |

2008-07-30 Hillam and Monk Fryston Plan Scarecrow Festival |
Hillam and Monk Fryston are planning a Scarecrow Festival on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September. The scarecrows will be displayed in front gardens and public spaces on a trail through the villages. The theme of the scarecrows can be anything - from a traditional model to a well- known character, person or animal. Two pounds per entry, please complete the forms available or contact Carolyn Popham 01977 684008 or Sue Newton 01977 682084. All money raised will go to Community Association Projects. |

2007-07-26 Hillam Historians Celebrate First 5 Years |
Hillam historians, founded 5 years ago, are holding an event in the village square on Sunday 29th July to celebrate the village's farming heritage. Star attraction is Victoria, a 100 year old traction engine complete with threshing machine. The event starts at noon. |
