2010-07-25 Funds Boost For Blooming Aberford |
The Aberford in Bloom Group has applied to the Parish Council for a £1000 grant to help towards their efforts. The council decided that rather than handing over a lump sum, the amount would be offered to be ‘drawn down’ over the next 12 months. The Group will liaise with the Clerk to draw on this money.

Following back-word being given, 3 reduced price Leeds Festival tickets were still available. A redraw from the remaining names will be conducted by Aberford Parish Council and the tickets re-offered. The festival tickets will be collected in August and distributed to all successful applicants.

Revised bus timetables come into effect from Sunday 25th July with the introduction of Day Tripper buses from Leeds to Lotherton Hall (service 950)

Fostering agency SWIIS Foster Care is holding a celebration of foster caring at Lotherton Hall on 25th August for its foster carers and children.

The work of Yorkshire potter Sutton Taylor is to be displayed at Lotherton Hall until the end of August. Taylor spent 15 years up to 1990 living and working in the Old House in the stable block at the Hall.

2010-07-07 Crowds Enjoy Sunny Aberford Gala |
A large crowd and glorious sunshine attended the Aberford Gala on Saturday 26th June. The event made over 2000 pounds for the local school and community. Ali Lautiiti of Leeds Rhinos was the special guest of the day.

The council are running guided tours of the formal gardens at Lotherton Hall. These tours, on 7th July and 4th August are free but must be booked in advance on 0113 2645535. Parking fees apply. |

During the recent spell of warm weather, local PCSOs decided to upgrade their mode of transport, from foot to wheels! Specially designed pushbikes that are fully marked, have been provided for all NPT Officers to assist them tackling crime. Push-bikes are an excellent way of covering more ground whilst on patrol, they provide a quicker and environmentally friendly response, and so far have received positive feedback from local residents, who are happy with the presence. If your see your local officers patrolling on bikes, please continue to pass on information, or flag them down with any concerns or issues.

2010-05-31 Farmwatch Success |
A member of Farmwatch out on patrol in the Aberford area came across a Landrover parked at the side of the road with its engine running. On closer inspection, the Landover clearly had damage caused to the ignition barrel and was obviously stolen. The police were called and investigations revealed that the vehicle had only been stolen less than 12hrs ago.

Despite having nine councillors at present, there remain two vacancies on Aberford Parish Council. Residents are invited to come along to a couple of council meetings to see the work they do and to consider having a go themselves.
